Lesson 6:
詳述文學和藝術/ Discussing Literature and The Arts
These terms are used to discuss novels, plays, music, paingings, architecture (建築學), and other forms of literature or art.

characters (n.) 演員、角色
A person portrayed (扮演、表現) in a work of art, such as a novel, play or movie.
- The hero is the chief character in the play.

climax (n.) 高潮
The most exciting part of a play, piece of music, etc. that usually happens near the end.
- The climas of the play comes in the last act when the hero wins out over the villain (反叛角色).

conflict (n.) 抵觸、衝突
A situation in which there are opposing ideas, opinions, feelings or wishes.
- Armed conflict is likely to break out between the two countries.

dialogue (n.) 對白 [di-a-logue]
Converstaion in a book, paly, or film/movie.
- dialogue box (電腦的對話框)
- Plays are written in dialogue. (劇本由對對話寫成。)

imagery (n.) 意像
Language that produces pictures in the minds of people reading or listening.
- Tim use imagery to create a lyrical emotion.

mood (n.) 情緒
The way you are feeling at a particular time.
- She's good mood today.

narrator (n.) 旁白、解說員
A person who tells a story, especially in a book, play or film/ movie; the person who speaks the words in a televsion program but who doesn't appear it.
- A frst-person narrator  (第一人稱敘述者)

plot (n.) 情節
The series of events which from the story of a novel, play, film, etc.
- The book is well organized in terms of plot.

setting (n.) 情節背景
The place and time ar which the action of a paly, novel, etc.
- This novie is short stories with a contemporary (當代的) settting.

style (n.) 風格、體
The features of a book, painting, building, etc. That make it typical of a particular author, artist, historical perried,etc.
- A parody written in the style of Molière. (模仿莫里哀風格的滑稽喜劇)

symbol (n.) 象徵
A person, an object, an event, etc.
The represent a more general quality or situation.
- White has always been a symbol of purity in Westem cultures.

theme (n.) 主題
The subject or main idea in a talk, piece of writing or work of art.
- North Aerican literature is the main theme of this year's festival.

title (n.) 名稱、標題
The name of a book, poem, painting, piece of music, etc.
- She has sung th etitle role (角色) in ''Carmen''.
